How It All Began
Meet Shailja, the Founder of Ukigo
Hi! I’m Shailja, and I started Ukigo from a simple realization: travellers don’t want fewer experiences; they want the right experiences, thoughtfully planned. Too often, travel feels rushed or transactional. I wanted to create journeys that feel calm, reliable, and intentional, where families and couples can relax and truly enjoy their time together.
While planning my own trips to Singapore and Thailand, I struggled to find a travel advisor I could genuinely trust. Everything felt impersonal, with little understanding of what I wanted from my holiday.
Being from Darjeeling, I noticed that friends and family often turned to me for travel advice. It made me realise that even today, people value human guidance, especially for family travel.
In April 2023, with my brother Lalit’s support, I turned this instinct for curation into Ukigo. We now design international trips to destinations like Bhutan, Thailand, and Vietnam, keeping trust, simplicity, and meaningful experiences at the centre.
We don’t see ourselves as agents, but as travel advisors, working closely with families and couples who value thoughtful planning. The name Ukigo, inspired by the Japanese word Ukiyo, reflects our belief that travel should feel light, effortless, and meaningful.
